Hello! My name is Frankie and I'm the owner and head trainer at Frankie Berger Dog Training. Ever since I can remember I've been fascinated by animal behavior. Growing up in Prescott, Arizona, I dedicated hours every week in my local library reading books on different breeds of dogs, their needs, and common behaviors within those breeds. At 13 I got my first personal dog, a Basset Hound terrier mix named Copper, and began training him various basic commands and tricks as a way to utilize the skills my reading had given me. That fascination with dog psychology translated to human psychology as well, and in 2016 after briefly attending Oregon State University for Creative Writing and Psychology I came to the conclusion that the sterile academic environment just wasn't a great fit for me. Back to square one, I took a leap and got a job working as a cashier at a major pet store. That quickly turned into a career in dog training and I haven't looked back since!
At the start of the pandemic I was furloughed from the pet store I was working at and decided to take the plunge and go fully independent. After a year of honing my skills and continuing my education through hands on experience with other trainers I started Frankie Berger Dog Training! I've had the amazing opportunity to work with hundreds of dogs and their humans over the last 3 years on behavioral modification, service dog task training, and other basic and advanced obedience skills. More recently I've been honored as an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen evaluator and continue expanding my skills through networking with other trainers and becoming a student again with my dog Nymh in sprot categories like agility and scent work.
Sharing the skills I've learned with other dog handlers and transforming good dogs to great dogs has been the highlight of my last 6 years and I'm looking forward to the next dozen ahead!
Nymh is a 4 year old German Shepherd Husky mix that I got back in 2019 as a service dog prospect. The first time we met she was only 4 weeks old on my 21st birthday! Ever since she came home a couple weeks later she's been training; whether it be service dog tasks, advanced obedience, or sports, Nymh has always risen to every challenge I set for her. Nowadays she's enjoying the demo dog life, mostly retired from service work, and getting to hang out with all of my lovely clients as the Boss Dog.
